Featured stone in this collection: Ocean Jasper in hues of evergreen, mustard and pale pink. This stone carries the extra character of small Druzy pockets across its face. Druzy refers to a rock surface (usually a cavity) covererd with tiny, lucid crystals such as those found inside geodes or other larger pockets of mineral deposits.
"Ocean Jasper only comes from one place in the world, northwestern Madagascar. This gemstone cabochon material known as Ocean Jasper is a variety of silicified rhyolite flow from off the northwest coast of Madagascar. The mining area stretches for about 120 miles on the remote and rugged western coastline, on the northernmost part of this island nation. The first deposits of Ocean Jasper could only be collected at low tide. Ocean Jasper was named for its location as well as its resemblance to the foam of the ocean as it recedes back into the ocean, with its wavy patterns of green-gray, white, cream, beige, brown, pink and maroon. This material is most noted for colorful, distinct orbs. Occasionally this gemstone cabochon material will have translucent areas, or beautiful pockets of natural green or white crystals."
Large statement pendant artfully handcrafted from reclaimed sterling silver. I have formed a thick bezel and paired it with a continuous, hand-sawn mountain profile overlay to surround this tall Jasper. Complete with inky, starry sky and carved pine trees. All edges are sleek and smooth. This piece has been finished with fine steel wool for a bright, brushed finish and a waxed patina for contrast.
This pendant has a hidden chain slide so that the oxidized, round snake chain can move freely. The snake chain itself is 16" and I have added an additional 2" length of soldered, linked rings so this pendant can be dropped to a length of 18". The chain is finished with a pine tree tag. My Maker's Mark and purity stamp complete the reverse of the pendant body. Weighty, solid and durable. Always handmade and made to last.
